Wolves and Jackals
A legend from the Lunarus tribe
____________________________
The Wolf sat up with his canine head high. The animals of the forest bowed down to him and all of his might.  The Jackal was jealous. How he fought, how he killed, no respect was shown to him. He decided that he wanted to take away the Wolf’s worship. One day when the Wolf was hunting with his pack, the Jackal spied closely. The Jackal pranced near the wolf. “Hello, Jackal. Are you hunting as well?” The Wolf said politely. But the Wolf’s charm made Jackal feel sick to the stomach. He put on his fake grin with his sharp Jackal teeth.
“Why hello, my fellow Wolf! How delightful to see you! Oh, how hungry you must be from sitting all day with nothing to eat! Well, there is a part of the woods with fresh deer running all about! Would you like me to show you?”
The Wolf and his pack licked their sharp teeth with the thought of fresh deer. “Oh yes, my pack and I are very hungry! I will be delighted that you may show us where this amazing place is!” The Jackal smiled his mischievous smile and led the wolves. When they have arrived, the Jackal slammed them in a magic box. “Jackal! Where are you? Where are we?” The Jackal sent  all of the wolves to the to the moon. The Jackal smiled his evil grin, watching the box teleport to the moon. Now the forest animals had no one to worship. No one to worship, except him.
The animals of the forest were terrified. All of the wolves were gone. They looked everywhere. The Jackal was enjoying all of this. He sat down on the Wolf’s thrown, watching the stressful animals screaming for the wolves. He leaned back and swallowed a rat. This was the life. Then suddenly, the Raven yelled, “I have found a wolf! I repeat! I have found a wolf!”
The Raven found a little wolf pup cuddled up under a bush. The Cougar came over and held the little wolf  in his paws. “Little wolf, do you know where your family is?” The pup looked up and pointed her little paw to the afternoon moon. The cougar was shocked. “Who could have done this?” He said. “We must help them.”
The Jackal spit out his rat. NO! They could not have found his secret! But then he calmed himself down.
“Bah! They will never let the wolves down from there! That is nonsense! But I did forget one wolf. That little pup.” The Jackal smiled his evil grin and snuck towards the pup. He was now behind her. He smiled his large smile and stabbed her in the back with a sharp stone  The pup howled very loud in pain. She kept howling with her head pointing to the moon. Then suddenly, the moon opened a passage from the howl so the wolves can get out. One by one, each wolf came out. The pup was bleeding in the back, yet she saved all of the wolves with her howl. Her mother ran up to her hugged her tight, and healed her wound. The wolves were back! The Jackal was mortified.
The Cougar then came up and hugged the Wolf. Then, he took the magic box and through it in the lake so no one will ever find it. Then, the Jackal received a hard punishment and got banished to the moon. Now today, when we see a wolf howling, it is the remembrance of their freedom.

The end!
