Tell me what you think!!!!
Prometheus and the
Dream of Tomorrow
By Hannah Walker
Once upon a time, there was
a demigod, by the name of Prometheus, who lived long ago, in ‘Mount Olympus’,
He was always dreaming, of the past, the present, and tomorrow. He was always
dreaming.Prometheus was an extremely optimistic young demigod, for he was always
dreaming, and dreaming takes you other places, better places, normally. But,
one day, he decided, he didn’t want to live with the stuffy, gods any longer.
He wanted freedom, to dream, and pass his dreams to others. So, when the earth
was still new, he left the gods, to live with, animalistic, mankind. But, to
his surprise, he found them all trembling from the freezing winters.
“If only they knew the wonders
of the gods.” He internally mused “They would be so astounded with fire, and
all the warmth it gives.” Then, taking
sudden pity on the creatures, he hitched a cloud and deftly flew straight back
to ‘Mount Olympus’. Prometheus explained his plan to
the king of the gods, but Zeus refused. “Zeus,” Prometheus poorly begged “I know what you’re thinking, ‘Get your head out of the
clouds’ but you need to send fire to these poor creatures!” But, unfortunately,
Zeus refused smugly refused, for he had always been a tyrant, and merely hated
humans. Fortunately, this didn’t burn out Prometheus’ hope, for he gathered as
many reeds as he could, any that had a dry center, for these would burn
quickly. He released them in the middle of the –crude-civilization and waited
for an extended amount of time, before he saw it. The greatest experience on
earth, for every day, Helios would drive his breathtakingly
astounding, chariot. Now, this wasn’t
just a soaring chariot, no, it was engulfed in heavenly fire and speed in
lighting velocity, around the earth, once every day. It was what gave all the
villagers, hope for tomorrow, even though they couldn’t feel its heavenly
warmth, they imagined the heat and it gave them hope, hope for a better tomorrow. Prometheus knew this, and at that moment, he
leaped deftly upwards towards the burning flames and time froze. There he was,
wishfully soaring upwards towards the chariot, and at that exact moment, Zeus
peered downwards.
Zeus ferociously roared an unnaturally
piercing sound it was, and flung a lightning bolt straight at Prometheus. Zeus
didn’t like to be usurped, especially by someone much lesser than him. But,
Prometheus had been expecting this. Just in time, he grazed the edge of the
reed on the wheel of the flaming chariot, but that was barely enough, but
enough to set the whole reed on fire in awesome glory. He landed, dropped the
reed in the pile he made earlier, which set the whole thing a ’lit and dodged
the lightning bolt that was hurtling straight for him. Prometheus rolled
downward, to squelch the flames engulfing him, and briefly thought, “I,
Prometheus, have bested Zeus.” And chuckled as he rolled towards the
river. Meanwhile, the villagers were
scrambling from their cots, houses, and huts to see what all the commotion was
about, only to see that not only; there was a breathtaking bonfire in the
middle of their village. But, Zeus’ lightning bolt had not only missed
Prometheus, but struck the reeds in a wonderful, ‘CLAP’, and the whole village
blossomed with heat, and light. After collecting themselves, they peeked down
at the gorge where Prometheus had disappeared, and heard rustling of leaves.
“Prometheus!” they all hollered, and were returned with a proud “Mankind shall
have fire always! I have best the old tyrant of Olympus, may he drown in his
jealousy.” And the people cheered; for all that they had, Light, Freedom, and
an old demigod by the name of Prometheus, who brought them the most important
gift,
The Dream of a Better Tomorrow.
